Public Safety
The number one responsibility of any city council is public safety and Arcadia definitely is no exception. Police officers are very much in demand. Arcadia has faced a shortage of officers for years. I worked hard to increase officers to patrol our fine city. Over the last five years there has been a 6.4% decrease in crime in Arcadia. We still need to do more.

I fought to close the sleazy massage parlors and strip clubs that had opened in our city. I worked hard to keep slot machines out of Santa Anita, prohibit marijuana dispensaries and keep sex offenders away.

There are only 51 fire departments with a “Class 1” rating in the entire country. Arcadia is one of them and I will continue to support them.

It's Your Money
I know the funds we receive come from hard working taxpayers. I am the President of my own company and I know how challenging this economy has been.  I understand how careful we need to be with every dollar. I don’t vote for tax increases and I will make every dollar spent by the city accountable to the citizens. I am an independent decision maker.  I have no problem asking tough questions of the staff, department heads or the City Manager.

Here is an email I received about the citywide landscape maintenance bid in 2007.

“Thank you so much, for requesting a competitive {sic} bid process.  Your simple request has saved the city $46,493.00/year. Mariposa's price was $519,521.00/year and CLS's price was $481,160.00/year.  CLS dropped their price from $527,521.00 to $481,160.00, a savings of $46,493.00.”

Up coming issues face Arcadia. We know that that times are tough. Reserves are for emergencies and not for ongoing expenses. There are unfunded liabilities from previous councils for staff benefits; we need to start setting resources aside to fund this debt
